On May 21, Dominion Consulting employees, families, and friends participated in the 8th Annual Mattie Miracle Walk & Family Festival. It was a great day of fun at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes’ School that served to raise money for the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation. Activities included an inflatable obstacle course, giant lawn games like Connect Four and Jenga, and so much more.
This was Dominion’s sixth time participating in the walk and once again it was a rewarding experience. The Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation is a great cause and it brings out the best in people.
Those who have been following Dominion Consulting for any period of time know that one of our core corporate values is giving back to the community. Our team prides itself on helping organizations that make lasting and meaningful impacts of the lives of many. We also look to support those organizations that are near and dear to our employees’ hearts.
Dominion employees at all levels dedicate their time and talent to these organizations. We are proud to have an annual Community Outreach budget that allows us to support these causes in many different ways.
In the age of Fundly, Booster, and GoFundMe, one would be hard pressed not to find a worthwhile cause in need of financial help. Every so often you come across one that strikes a match and lights a fire within you to do more. Since 2012, that cause has been Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation.
This year marks the 8th Annual Mattie Miracle Walk & Family Festival. The walk generates 85 percent of the Foundation’s budget, all walk proceeds go towards the Foundation’s programs. 2017 marks Dominion’s sixth year participating in the walk. Once again we are encouraging all of our employees and their families and friends to join us as we walk. With each lap around the track, walkers earn a colorful cup to place in the chain link challenge wall. Once filled, Mattie Miracle Foundation will have met their challenge! Which means you’ve helped Mattie Miracle Foundation raise an additional $3,000 to support their psychosocial mission.
On January 24, the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation held a Psychosocial Implementation Policy Roundtable on Capitol Hill. This event focused on identifying the strategies and challenges for implementing psychosocial standards of care. The roundtable brought together a wide range of stakeholders including researchers, clinicians, psycho-oncologists, psychologists and accreditation experts. My colleague, Todd Schuerhoff and I had the privilege of helping to moderate the day’s events. We were honored to play even a small role in such an important occasion.
The event focused on the need for implementing standards of care to ensure that access to quality psychosocial care from diagnosis, through treatment, into survivorship or end of life and bereavement care is provided to children with cancer and their families. The day was broken into six major topic areas including Outcomes, Legislative/Policy, Resourcing, Reimbursement, Accreditation, and Delivery Models. For each topic, an expert in that particular area introduced the topic and described the current landscape. Following that presentation, we facilitated a group discussion in an effort to discuss and develop strategies. We had the enormous benefit of a fully engaged, informed, and vocal group that really made the sessions meaningful and productive.
Cancer affects the lives of so many people, it’s hard not to have first-hand experience with it in some form or another. While it’s easy to focus on the negative aspects of this undiscriminating disease, we rarely get the opportunity to hear about the awe-inspiring people who have dedicated their lives to beating cancer or are beating cancer themselves. October 29th presented one of those opportunities for us at Dominion Consulting as we had the pleasure of attending and sponsoring the 2016 Lombardi Gala.
My wife and I have had the honor of personally attending the Gala for the last several years. We continue to be amazed and inspired by the countless lives that have been changed, improved, and saved as the direct result of the great work that the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center is doing. The Gala continues to provide a wonderful venue to spend time with our friends and colleagues and unite in our support of life-saving cancer research. The more I learn about the work being done by cancer centers like Lombardi all over the country, the more optimistic and confident I become that it isn’t a matter of if we beat cancer, but when. We are truly honored to be a part of such a great network of people dedicating to supporting such a cause and organization.
